{"id":515,"date":"2019-11-20T17:27:12","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T21:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocmsites.org\/policy\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=515"},"modified":"2019-11-20T17:27:12","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T21:27:12","slug":"surplus-personal-computer-electronic-property","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/ocmsites.org\/policy\/policy\/surplus-personal-computer-electronic-property\/","title":{"rendered":"Surplus Personal Computer-Electronic Property"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 id=\"policy-statement\" ><strong>Policy Statement<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>All Augusta University units that have Personal Computers (PC) and any type electronic equipment that contains data storage devices must have the hard drive or data storage device removed before disposal.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure compliance with federal and state laws associated with confidential information, such as the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Augusta University requires the removal of all data storage devices prior to disposal of electronic equipment<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"affected-stakeholders\" >Affected stakeholders<\/h1>\n<p><em>All entities and persons within the Enterprise that are affected by this policy:<\/em><br \/>\n<a class=\"badge\" href=\"https:\/\/ocmsites.org\/policy\/policy-tags\/faculty\/\">Faculty<\/a>, <a class=\"badge\" href=\"https:\/\/ocmsites.org\/policy\/policy-tags\/staff\/\">Staff<\/a><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"policy-owner\" >Policy Owner<\/h1>\n<p>Supply Chain Initiative<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"definitions\" >Definitions<\/h1>\n<p>Electronic equipment sent to Surplus Property can be disposed of in several ways, to include transfer to a school district, other approved government entities or a vendors authorized to dispose of electronic equipment. Any software and data files left on a hard drive, main frame, server, and\/or electronic storage device could potentially be retrieved. This oversight can lead to conflicts with software license agreements, unauthorized access to personal data or patient\/research subject information or other Augusta University documents.
